MTU filter Main Types
MTU Air Filter
Function: Remove dust, sand, and other particles from the air entering the engine to protect cylinders and valves.
Types: Dry (paper element, common in passenger cars), wet (oil-impregnated element, suitable for dusty environments), combined (multi-stage filtration, preferred for construction machinery).

MTU OIL FILTER
Function: Eliminate metal shavings, sludge, and carbon deposits from engine oil to keep the lubrication system clean.
Types: Spin-on (replaceable as a whole, convenient and efficient), cartridge (replace only the element, used in some commercial vehicles), integrated (built into the engine for long-life design).
MTU Fuel Filter
Function: Filter impurities and water from fuel to protect the fuel injection system (e.g., fuel injectors, fuel pumps).
Types: Gasoline filter (external or internal, replaced regularly), diesel filter (often with water separator, suitable for high-sulfur fuel).

The Replacement Cycle of MTU filters
For different models of mtu engines and different operating environments, the replacement cycle and inspection requirements of the filters May vary. Specifically, you should refer to the engine operation manual and the manufacturer’s suggestions.
Air Filter: Generally, it should be replaced after the engine has run for 500 – 1000 hours. If the operating environment is dusty, the replacement cycle should be appropriately shortened.
Oil Filter: It is usually replaced every 200 – 300 hours of operation or according to the quality condition of the engine oil, whichever comes first.
Fuel Filter: It is recommended to replace it every 500 – 800 hours of operation. If the fuel quality is not good, it needs to be replaced more frequently.

MTU Filter Inspection Items
Appearance of the Filter: Check the filter housing for any damage, deformation, or leakage every time during maintenance.
Sealing Performance: Examine whether the sealing ring of the filter is in good condition to ensure a good seal and prevent unfiltered air, oil, or fuel from entering the system.
Clogging Condition: You can judge it by the clogging indicator on the filter. If the indicator shows clogging, it should be replaced in a timely manner. You can also indirectly determine whether the filter is clogged by observing the operating condition of the engine, such as a decrease in power or an increase in fuel consumption.
